Sorting the Portland shearling and lambs ewes, some of these girls have very good blood lines which I am really pleased about.
At the beginning of September I sold my Bluefaced Leicester rams and treated myself to a new one so I have new blood in the flock. He is huge but sweet so I have named him Bulk. I think he will treat my girls just fine.
This year we are lambing in two groups. The early group have been the Pedigree Bluefaced Leicester (BFL) ewes and some Gotland ewes who all went to a Pedigree BFL ram. So far all the BFL have lambed producing some super lambs and our first ever coloured lamb who happens to be a handsome ram. The Gotlands have been popping out white and coloured lambs which is a first for us as well, in previous years we have just had coloured lambs as…
Today we collected our first starter flock of Angora Goats. We will be using their mohair to blend with our other sheep fleeces. The angora goat is an ancient breed and their mohair is a soft, lustrous and hard-wearing fibre.
Tagged the Portland and Balwen lambs today, always leave them until later in the year as their ears are so small. Once tagged they were moved in with the Bluefaced Leicester X Gotland lambs who were highly inquisitive.

This year I decided to show sheep for the first time in a local show. With nerves and butterflies I entered shows and halter trained my favourite Portland ram Darling, 2 ewes and a ewe and ram lamb. I was so proud when at the Woolsery show in my show class of Any Other Breeds my ram came second, my breeding trio came second and my ewe lamb forth. I really enjoyed showing this rare breed.
The sheep always sit under this tree. The tree is twisted and contorted by the wind blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean. It leans and hangs low. When shade is available in the summer, sheep use it. The sheep also have a camping behaviour here.
It is always exciting to lamb from a new breed of sheep you get. The BFL are a big long legged sheep and their bellies and udders where gigantic before they lambed. I had a mixture of triplets, twins and singles from my five ewes. All lambs are growing well and their huge ears stick up alert to the world around them.
We have decided to sell some of our Gotland ewes as our flock is getting pretty big now. They are a range of ages all with lovely personalities and beautiful fleeces. All ewes are pedigree and registered with the Gotland Society. Price per ewe is £120.
